KraussMaffei, Rehau project focuses on hydrogen fuel cell tanks
Officials in the polyurethane equipment segment of KraussMaffei Group announced a project with a customer to make tanks for fuel cell vehicles, and outlined KM’s offerings at the upcoming PU China show.
KraussMaffei delivered a RimStar Compact 8/4 high-pressure resin transfer machine to Rehau AG + Co.’s new technical center for lightweight construction at its Viechtach molding plant in Lower Bavaria, Germany, where the company is developing hydrogen fuel tanks for fuel-cell vehicles.
The RimStar Compact 8/4’s high-pressure mixing and metering system will help Rehau in its research efforts into thick-walled hollow pressure vessels. The goal: Achieve process control that can support large-scale production.
Initial testing of the mold concept and high-pressure RTM process was cone at KraussMaffee facilities.
Rehau has invested 3.4 million euros ($3.72 million) in special engineering systems at its plant to develop the hydrogen fuel cell tanks.
In China trade show news, KM will present machinery to process polyurethane and fiber-reinforced composites at the PU China show, Aug. 31-Sept. 2 in Guangzhou.
KM will be in Booth 210.
The company’s trade-show focus will be on modular oval conveyor systems for making automotive seats, new mold carriers, clear coat molding technology, high-pressure resin transfer molding and the long-fiber injection process.
KraussMaffei makes the modular oval conveyor systems in Germany and China. The process provides fast and simple mold carrier changes.
